My ram was running at 1333mhz or something and i wanted it at 1600mhz so i simply changed the settings in BIOS from XMP to profile 1. I did not make profile 1 it was already there. Is this considered overclocking and is it safe?

It's completely safe. XMP profiles are there to make RAM run at it's rated speed. DDR3 defaults on most boards to DDR3 1333.
