with a 600W PSU, do you mean a 600W PSU or a PSU that actually has 600W, like a bronze certified 80+ PSU that's 750W?

 
Some points:
The display resolution is important, a GTX 780 is going to be wasted on a single 1080 display, only consider this card if you're running at least dual monitors, for a single display a GTX770/R9 280X is a better choice (and a better match to the CPU).
Check the installed power supply can handle the upgrade.
The PCI-E version is not a problem, your motherboard will be at least PCI-E 2.0, plenty fast enough for ANY single card.
For really demanding games, 8Gb of memory is good, but they'll run off 4Gb although you'll probably get some glitches at the higher settings.
