I'm planning to build my first gaming computer. Everything is planned out: I have the perfect parts except for one: the GPU(s). I am building this mainly to be able to play Star Citizen and a few other high ranking games. I won't be building it for a few months, but I am still stuck between getting 2 GTX 770's and waiting until the 800 series is out and buying 1 GTX 870 (at first. I will probably get another way in the future if I do go that route). I realise we do not know as much about the 800 series right now, but would it be worth it to wait until Q1 of next year (still not sure if that is fiscal or calendar, so if anyone can give a rough time/month, that would be very useful) to get the second best of the latest, or get 2 of the second best that we have now? From what I have heard, the 870 seems more appealing as it will supposedly be an equivalent to the 780, and be priced at around £300- £400 (while I do trust the source of this, I have not yet found much to back it up). If I were to go that route, I would likely build most of the computer bar the card (I could always get a 640 or something to tide me over), then just buy the card when the brand ones are out and a bit cheaper. Would this be the better decision or would 2 770’s in SLI be better?

Or is it too early to tell and this entire post means nothing right now?

;)  You said it.

No way to know anything that far in advance unless a few means 2 or 3 in which case nothing will have changed from now.

Remember when company's say Q they mean Fiscal Year Quarter and the fiscal year doesn't end until March so Q1 means April not January.
Don't play the waiting game, no one knows for sure when the 800 series comes, could be q1 2014 or q4 2014, just get the card you can afford and perhaps sell that when the 800 series comes round. Why play top $$ for new when can enjoy a very good 7xx series that can kill most games at a reasonable price.
The "latest" is always second best. Obsolete after purchase with most components. (ex. cellphones)
