Hi, I have 2 ASUS wireless routers and want to see if I can hook them up to run off one modem. I also only want one wireless signal to connect to. Is this even possible?

Router 1= ASUS Wireless AC1750 (Dual Band)

Router 2 = ASUS Wireless N900

I thought that it maybe possible to run an ethernet cable from Router 1 (at the back of my house) to Router 2 (at the front of my house) thus increasing the wireless range and giving me some wired ethernet ports for Playstation etc. I'm trying to set this up on a Mac too just to complicate it further? Be great for any to help and I really need baby stepping through this? Thanks.

It is so much easier than following that link. You do not want a repeater anyway you want a AP.

I would use the AC1750 as you main router since it has the most features...ie firewall and qos etc etc. All you do is cable them lan-lan turn off the DHCP in the second router and assign it a static IP address that does not conflict so you can manage it. You configure the SSID and security keys the same on both devices....you can make them different if you choose. You are pretty much good to go

I am going to bet the n900 actually has a AP mode so you can cable to the WAN port (gives a extra lan port that way) and it will disable the DHCP for you. Check the manual.

You will want to use different channels on your 2 routers be...

You will want to use different channels on your 2 routers be very careful in your selection since 802.11ac want to use 4 consecutive channels so you do not want to use those on the other router. Still you can ignore this to start with it and change it after you get it basically working.

Hi bill001g, Thanks for the response. The N900 does have an AP mode. That much I can work out the rest however… I really need baby stepping through. I'm on a mac and I have no idea what steps to take to carry out this. When you say different channels how do I go about changing them on each router? Sorry for being such a dumb ass about this.
Thanks.

There should be a setting on the wireless screens and you can set the channels for 2.4g and 5g it is generally in the same area you set the SSID and passwords. Maybe best to ignore the channel stuff and if you have performance issues then go back and mess with it. It is purely to prevent the 2 routers from talking over each other but if they are far enough apart it may not matter.

Hi bill001g,
Think of explaining this to me as the same as trying to talk your mother through it. Now, knowing that I'm a complete dunce what are the steps I have to carry out to get this to work? Thanks for your patience.
