Hello, thanks in advance for any help and for this great community.

I've recently upgraded from an AMD HD5870 to an AMD R9 280x graphics card. My goal is to have 5 monitors connected as regular displays (eyefinity not necessary - some displays are slightly different in size and position). The ideal resolution would be 1920x1080 for each monitor.

In terms of hardware, I also have a Club3D MST DisplayPort Hub, which I have been told by AMD support over Twitter (and have seen in other articles) can support passive adapters at any connection point. I have and have tried passive adapters for DVI connections.

The AMD R9 280x card has the following ports:

  • ■ 4 DisplayPort
    ■ 2 DVI
For monitors and ports, I have the following:

  • ■ Display 1: HDMI, DVI, VGA
    ■ Display 2: HDMI, DVI, VGA
    ■ Display 3: DisplayPort, DVI, VGA
    ■ Display 4: DVI, VGA
    ■ Display 5: DVI, VGA
I have downloaded and installed the correct drivers for the graphics card, as well as the Club3D MST DisplayPort Hub. I can get three monitors displaying fine by directly connected to the graphics card. My issues and questions:

  • ■ The Club3D MST DisplayPort Hub doesn't seem to work at all, even with just one or two displays connected to it. I've tried moving the MST Hub connector around the graphics card ports as well. Even an all natural DisplayPort monitor connection to the Hub, connected naturally to the graphics card, doesn't work.
    ■ I'm confused about DVI-I and DVI-D, does this matter here? If so, how can I tell the difference?
    ■ Technical documentation for the graphics card is sparse or nonexistent as far as I can tell. It seems like with these cards you have to use certain ports, and when you do, others can be disabled automatically. Any insights?
How can I accomplish this? From all of the research and reading that I've done, I believe that I have all of the appropriate hardware. Not being able to even use the MST Hub on its own concerns me as a first troubleshooting step.

Ideally, I would use the MST Hub for three monitors, and plug the other two into the two DVI ports on the graphics card. However, I could use tons of adapters and just use the DisplayPort ports on the graphics card if the DVI's need to be left alone.

Any help is so greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Worked it out by trying every single combination imaginable... Turns out with a hub setup like this certain ports are active are certain ones aren't, and it isn't intuitive. Disappointing that ASUS has zero FAQ's and zero user manuals for this. Hard web searching also doesn't come up with configuration possibilities, just reviews.

Anyway, thanks for reading. *Solved*
