Hello,

I have an Acer TravelMate 5742G with a NVIDIA Geforce GT 540M 1GB in it.
But my laptop doesn't use it, it uses the intel HD graphics card (the bad one with no memory).
On the Nvidia control panel I only see:
- System update
-3D-options
- Video
I looked around and I saw I missed the display tab.
specifications:
- Intel Core i5-450M 2.53 GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 500 GB HDD

Sorry for my English

Hope you guys can help me.

Have you tried checking when the computer is under load? The computer I'm currently using uses an Optimus setup similar to yours. Unless I'm playing a game, the graphics processor "is" the integrated chipset.

Another thing about Optimus, the chipset will always display the graphics, but the discrete card will render them. So that's most likely why the nvidia gpu is not displayed by utilities such as DirectX Diagnostics (dxdiag.exe)

To make sure you don't actually have a problem, download and run the Optimus Test Tools. They'll tell you if everything is working properly.

In the event that optimus isn't working, go into BIOS and make sure that the display setting is set to "Optimus" not "UMA only" (or something along...

If you are still having problems, get back to me.

I hope that helps!

Try playing a game (a graphically demanding one) and run the Optimus Test Tools while playing.

See if the result is different.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. So now there actually is a problem :p

Try going to this page to download all the "VGA" drivers for your computer. Make sure you select the right model computer and OS. Once you've installed those, try to test Optimus the same way as last time (after a restart).

Let me know how that goes!

I'll keep looking into this. In the meantime, see if these steps fix your problem. I'll be back with another idea in a bit.

Best of luck!

Okay.

So you installed the drivers I linked on Acer's website.

You've gone to Nvidia and installed drivers from there.

Can you find the card in Device manager?

What do you mean when you say "double click on Nvidia"? When you click on the Nvidia card in the Device Manager it gives you Error Code 43?

If it's within Device manager, follow this guide.

I hope you find a solution there! If none of those steps help, then it's a different Error Code 43 than the one I'm thinking of, and we will have to deal with it differently.
