Hi.

I just received my new R9 270X today and have installed it but now my PC won't boot, the fans on the GPU start up after a couple seconds but i get no beep and no video output from the MOBO or the GPU.

Before I installed the card I uninstalled all drivers and nVidia software relating to my previous GTX 550Ti. I had to removed some cables to get the card in but I have replaced these and triple checked that they are all firmly connected.

My system is
MSI H61MA
i5 2500k
Aywun 650W PSU
windows 7 64bit

the old card was MSI GTX 550Ti
new one is Gigabyte OC R9 270X windforce

I have read through this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-ste... with no success

edit: I removed the GPU and it all starts up fine without it. Could it be a faulty card or maybe a compatibility issue with my existing hardware?

The simple question first: Did you plug in both PCI-E power cords from your PSU? Does your PSU HAVE two PCI-E leads!
This could very well be a PSU problem. You might want to take a look at the below article from Hardware secrets:
http://forums.hardwaresecrets.com/aywun-megapower-elite...
Try another known, good, working power supply - preferably a name brand such as Corsair, xfx, seasonic, antec - and it it works with that psu, you know your Aywun is bad.
Put your 550Ti back in. If it works then the problem may be the new card.

Yup it has two connectors a 6 pin and a 6+2 pin, both are connected. I am currently in the process of updating my motherboard BIOS to see if that will fix things. I have tested both the power connectors through the 550ti and they both work, and my PSU is a good 150W higher than the recommended requirement for the card.

I had a look at that article, very interesting.. My one is a megapower eco 650 (A1-650E), not Elite, not sure if that matters. I got it from a pretty legitimate supplier though so hmm... If the BIOS update doesn't work I'll be testing the card on my mates rig to rule out card faults etc, if it works on his then I guess I'm looking at a new PSU.

You don't think it would be a case of using a pci-e 2.0 slot? I was under the impression it is backwards compatible and pci-e 3 cards can go into 2.0 slots provided they are x16 (which this one is). Or maybe the motherboard isn't quite right.
