Is it safe to overclock my CPU (AMD A8-5500)

I've never overclocked a CPU, so I don't know too much on the subject. I have an ASUS CM175. With an AMD A8-5500 running at 3.2GHz. I've heard that the A8-5500 can be overclocked to 3.7GHz.

Here are some other hardware specifications.

Chipset- AMD A85X FCH
Graphics Card- AMD® Radeon HD7470 1GB
Power Supply- 350w

Any information would be helpful.

It is safe as long as your temps are ok, but that cpu is not going to overclock very high at all. Almost not worth it.

You CAN overclock your graphics. The base clock speed is 3.2ghz, but it has built in turbo @ 3.7ghz already.

It's not really a graphics CARD. The A8 has built in graphics on the cpu die. But yes, you can overclock it, and it would bring better results than trying to overclock the cpu.

What RAM are you using? Having the right RAM setup is very important when using integrated graphics.

Oh I see. Sorry. Your integrated graphics is stronger than that video card. I would take it out.

Or it's at least similar. You can try running dual graphics with it.

Yeah that's the point of the AMD A-series cpus. Very strong graphics power. The HD 7470 is not a gaming card at all. It's more of a common multimedia video card for movie playback and such.

The integrated graphics run best with fast RAM in dual channel. Do you have one RAM stick or two? 1600mhz is alright, but 1866mhz is better.

I switched to integrated graphics for a while, and I only got worse results then using my graphics card, plus I can't display in as high a resolution.

Well that is a shock. The 7470 must be quite a lot better than the 6450, but I just looked it up and it doesn't quite match the 6570. The A8 SHOULD equal or be a little better than the 6570. I guess the difference between the A8 and A10 is greater than I thought.

Have you tried to run dual graphics?
