I am confused...for the GTX 770 which is the gpu I have it says it supports pci e 3.0. I have purchased an intel i5 4760k with msi z87-g45 mobo which has pci e 3.0. However, I am contemplating returning the intel processor and msi mobo and getting an AMD fx 9370 with a Gigabyte GA-990 which only has pci e 2.0. Would the GTX 770 still work? Would you even suggest getting amd instead of intel? Cheers.

Solution
Yes, it will work. At the moment no GPU can saturate the bandwidth of a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot, let alone PCI-E 3.0 (they are backwards compatible).

As for your question, the simplest explanation I can give is Intel is better at single threading where AMD is usually a bit better at multi-threading, as such Intel would be the best bet if you are a serious gamer and AMD the better bet if you game while working/etc.

Furthermore, you may need to check the Gigabyte GA 990 to see if it can support the 9370, the TDP is higher than the FX-8000 series and most motherboards are suggesting against it for now.

Lastly, the 9370 and the newer one (I forget the numbers) are basically overclocked versions of the 8350, meaning that they are the same...

It's not suggested to run one under air cooling, if you do plan to go that route, be sure to get a decent water cooler.
