Graohics Card Question

Hey guys...my buddy is looking to play Dota with me but is not sure he can do it with his current PC setup. He knows his PC needs a video card so he wants to know what he needs to buy to play it (at a minimum that will not run slow). His PC is right here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en...

So based on that motherboard and current setup, should he buy the "recommended" graphics card Nvidia 7600? Or will his current setup not support it?

I know the motherboard supports PCI x16 slot but am not technical enough to advise him what to buy and not 1) crash his PC, 2) overheat it, or 3) make the game run slow.

Thanks all!

I'm sorry, but apparently there is a problem with the link you posted.
But, still, I don't think he should buy the 7600... That card is REALLY old and not so good anymore.
I don't know about his motherboard, an d if it supports newer cards, so I can't reccomend a new one.
Instead, I will suggest maybe going for a 9600/9800?

I expect other users' input, as I'm far from knowing much about this...

This sytem can handle somewhat new graphic cards, but not very expensive/new ones.
This has Pci Express x16, but the proccessor is quite old and the PSU is very small, so we should look for a simple graphic card that won't need much power. Let me look a bit more into it.

Well, I've been reading a bit, and I can suggest a Radeon HD 5570 or a HD 6570. Still, I'm not completely sure about the compatibility.
Maybe you could start a new thread asking for specific compatibility of those cards with your motherboard (it is the IPIBL-LB Benicia).
Try to make it clear that he has a 250W PSU, which is a big limitation.

As an aside reccommendation, maybe he could replace the PSU as well, but I'm not too sure about that.
