I am using a relatively old system, but for years it has been running very well and I've had no issues. Recently, I decided to try out some games and installed Witcher 2, thinking that it's old enough to work. The game runs fine, but when I start it, I hear the fan going insane and after about 15-30 minutes of playing the system shuts off. No blue screen, no messages, no beeps - screen goes black, fans go silent, the computer is turned off. My first thought was that my video card was to blame, so I replaced it with a newer one. That allowed me to play continuously for a few hours, but when I got to a new level with a lot of units on the screen, the same issue came back - fans go nuts, then the computer goes off. Now I am thinking to replace the PSU. Please advise if this is a correct assumption and if there are any tests I should run prior to upgrading.
My current system is:
CPU: Intel Core Duo CPU E8400 3.00 GHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 (2GB)
PSU: BFG LS680 (680W)
I am thinking to upgrade the PSU to Actel HCG-750M.
