R9 280X with my 500w psu?

Will a Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X run on my AcBel R8 II 80+ certified psu?

No I would not try it. The 280X is just a rebranded 7970 but with a much higher potential voltage. In some conditions the 280X can pull 300 watts all by itself. RealhardtechX recommends a 600w unit.

AcBel Polytech is a lower end brand and that unit can only supply 34 amps on the 12v rail if in fact it can supply its rated wattage.

I don't think your PSU would even be able to power the R9-290X. Your PSU uses three +12V rails instead of a single rail, meaning that when you go to plug that six pin and eight pin power connector you're most likely going to be using two of those three 12V rails and your PSU physically will not be able to deliver enough power to the GPU.

That aside I still wouldn't recommend using a 500W PSU unless it was a SeaSonic 80+ Platinum or similar unit that can actually drive ~499W on the +12V rail.
