Hi guys my mother has an i5 4gb office pc at work and i've been trying to convince her to let me switch the cpu's she has an i5 and i have a pentium g840 2.8 dual core but she thinks she needs an i5 for her office pc but she only uses pastel and microsft office on it and i think the potential of the i5 is going to a waist in that pc because as far as i know the i5 is ment for gamers. So pls help and send me reply that says that my core will work for her at the office and that my cpu will work just as well as the cpu for her. (My mother doesn't realy know alot of pc values such as last time she tought a hardrive was the whole desktop so i think a good explenation would help her understand so pls help)

You clearly have no understanding of law. Lawsuits do not apply to criminal offence.
A criminal offence is prosecutable by the local authorities WITHOUT intervention or intent of the "victim".

And yes, I know plenty mothers that would do that, including my own when I was a kid.
Just because you had a nice sheltered life, does not mean all other are in the same comfortable situation.

Now if you would both just refer to the forum rules, TOMS DOES NOT ENDORSE ILLEGAL ACTS. Even less do we suggest you do them.

You could probably switch them over and she wouldn't notice a performance difference using the dual core pentium. Check the model of the i5 so you can check if they are the same socket (as depending on the i5 generation it could be a different socket, and therefore incompatible).

This could be considered illegal... Slow down there.

Really? Its his mothers pc
If all she is doing is office apps, she would probably never notice and if she did, he can always put it back. No harm no foul ;)

Meh, I used to borrow parts from my dads pcs for my own when I was a kid (only had one Sound blaster 16 in the house), but he didnt really mind.

Now I should agree with Novuake, so let's find a better way!!! how about convincing your mother!!?

Ok this is going off the rails.

Perhaps instead we can suggest that you can persuade your mother to swap CPUS with you if you assure her it will not impact her performance in her office applications - if she finds it is slow then you can swap it back (assuming she consents to the swap in the first place).

I dont think that was the arguement. The arguement was taking the mothers cpu without consent.

I am confused? The mother OWNS the PC, this makes it a legal matter?

Let's take this offline to PM. The first message I see about legality is from you: "This could be considered illegal... Slow down there. " The OP has been warned that this might be an issue, let's leave them in peace.

Just to make the waters murkier, it's the mother's "office PC at work." So maybe her employer owns it? Ricod306, if that's the case and the employer owns the machine, please drop the thread. If she owns it the legal issue becomes her consent, which is none of our business, and the technical issue remains can they be swapped.
