Yes you can.
You will need to go to regedit (Start -> type in "regedit" and press enter)
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci
Double click on "Start" and enter "0" as the value
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor (Or sometimes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStorV)
And if any one of those exists set start to "0" again.
Then shut down.
DO NOT BOOT INTO WINDOWS UNTIL YOU HAVE CHANGED CONTROLLER MODES AS THIS WILL UNDO ALL THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE!!!!!
Set the HDD controller to the desired mode and boot windows, It will install the appropriate drivers for your ACHI / IDE controller.
Then it will ask you to reboot, reboot and your all done
This worked for me only 1-2 weeks ago!
