Greetings,

I have always played PC games as a hobby, going from the 4:3 Diablo 2 and AoE days, to now, with all this rather topping 16:9 'Full HD', '1080p' madness.

I am currently using a 1680x1050 monitor. It's an 'Acer X223w', however, a variant, with only VGA compatibility. The monitor has an 8ms response time. It's an LCD monitor, TN panel.

This year I upgraded my PC. Intel i5 4650k, GTX 760, 8GB ram.

Still using that blasted monitor though!

Should I upgrade to something like a 1920x1080 LED IPS panel? Will it even make much of a difference when gaming?

My Acer X223w is from the DDR2 days and is 5 years old.

Well for starters its 5ms response time. You wont take much of a performance hit with just going to 1080p. I have been debating the same thing for several months (I have the same monitor as u) and I have come to the conclusion I can either get a super fast response time or go spend a lot of money to get a high end IPS. If you just get a sub $200 screen I doubt you'll get too much of an improvement. When the monitor came out it was a very good mid range monitor and there hasn't been a lot of changes other than 1080p being the standard now.
