I built a PC about a month ago consisting of
Cpu- Intel I7 4770K quadcore
GPU(S)- MSI GTX 660 x2
MOBO- MSI Z87 G45
RAM- Crucial Ballistix 16gb (2x8)
CASE- Corsair 500 R

My idle temp for my cpu has been sitting around 34-38 degrees Celsius and when gaming non demanding games im getting into the 60's but with playing Battlefield 4 on medium to high settings im reaching UPPER 90's! Truly terrifying temps to see.

Any suggestions or commands, I need some kind of run down of things to check
thank you in advance.

Check your current CPU heatsink to make sure it's fully seated. Also check how much thermal paste is present on the heat spreader. I believe the stock Intel heat sink comes with a thermal paste-pad applied so that should be fine. I have been running an i5-3500k OC'd to 4.3Ghz for two years on the stock cooler and I don't even break 70C when playing any games(BF4 included). I can't imagine the i7 runs that much hotter, so something seems amiss.

I will check the heat sink as soon as I can and yea something has to be wrong. because these temps are just insanely high.
Thank for the response will try and give an update.

the i7 ivy and haswell use thermal paste under the lid of the processor instead of soldered on which causes problems it isnt the best stuff i would recomend getting a 4 heatpipe cooler or 5 like the Cooler Master GeminII S524

replace fan with a AeroCool Shark 140mm fan for max peformance should drop you 40 max 50c gaming

So turns out one corner of the heat sink was not fully touching the cpu. Snapped it in and now idling in the upper 20's and running BF4 on ultra settings and peaking in the mid 50's
Also cleaned up my wiring to help with airflow.

That's great news. I'm glad it was something simple. Happy gaming!
