Whenever I try to open any window in control panel an error message pops up showing "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe is not a valid Win32 application."Even when trying to download any application from the Internet the download hangs just before completion when my browser shows "a few seconds remaining. The problem first occurred when I tried to access a downloaded file and It showed "window's virtual memory too low."I saw Local disc(C:) had only 36 Kb space remaining. Now I have successfully freed up almost 3.75Gb
space on that drive but still the problem persists.I have restored my computer to an earlier date when my pc was ok and also checked the C: drive for errors busing the window's inbuilt utility but all in vain. Some says that it is a trojan virus's attack.I have an antivirus installed on my pc but it is a freeware which is downloaded from the net and using a serial key provided on a site I remover my trial period of thirty days.I am in a great problem. Please help by stating the probable cause/s of the problem and do not forger to mention the possible ways to correct this problem other than reinstalling the OS,formatting the C: drive or taking it to a repairing shop.I will be highly grateful for your kind advices and opinions.

Solution
You can try an off-line virus scan if this is caused by a virus, but the issue is that those scans remove the virus but don't actually fix any issues the virus may have caused already.

You can download and burn a rescue CD from here http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-rescue-system, I've used this one before and it works well.

The only other option is to try a Repair setup of Windows using your disk. If that fails, a full clean setup is needed, just restore your data from backup (which you should have). Or buy a new hard-drive if you don't have any backups and install Windows on that new one and keep your old drive to copy your files over.
