fx6300 with asus m5a97 r2.0 motherboard with Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and Cooler Master SickleFlow 2000RPM fan

This is my first overclocking and I've got my 6300 to 4.5 Ghz at 1.322 vCore (I set it to 1.296 but it jumps up when i run Prime)

When running Prime 95 my CPU temp rose to 70 after 15 minutes. i re-ran the test with the side of my case off and then it only went up to 64. Are these safe temps? When i ran battlefield 4 for an hour on ultra my temp never went above 49.

I should mention i have a stock HP case fan which may be the reason its lower with the side off? or did i maybe apply the thermal paste wrong, im also using the cooler master paste that came with it. or are these temps normal for such an overclock?

- with the side off my idle temp its 31

Hi, i can't say whether your temps are good or not for such a high overclock (1 GHz) on a air cooler. But i will give you some other details which might help you find it out yourself....

There are two types of temperatures related to CPU, Socket Temperature and Core Temprature.

For FX 6300

Max Socket Temperature is 75-80 degree Celsius.
Max Core Temperature is 62 degree Celsius.

Program to check your socket temperature -> SpeedFan, the cpu temperature reported by this software is your scoket temperature.

Program to check your core temperatures -> CoreTemp. It will give you temperatures for each core of CPU.

Use the above two software to check what are your socket temperatures and core temperatures are when you do stability test using Prime 95 and while gaming. if they are 5-10 less than max temperatures then you are doing great , no reason to worry.

If you are getting close to max, try reducing the overclock until you are 10 degree less than max temps and that is your max overclock possible do not go above that you will reduce lifespan of your processor.

After 5 minutes(gotta go to class), socket = 61, cores = 51, however one of my cores just died so im going to have to reduce my overclock anyway. Thanks for the tips. bounce as well, im gonna take it down a notch
