How is my processor running at this speed?

I have an Intel i5 3570 (Non-K) at 3.40Ghz but can Turbo Boost to a maximum speed of 3.80Ghz when it needs to. The other day when I was calculating an animation render for my 3D modelling project I noticed it shot up to 4.18Ghz. I mean I'm not complaining but.. How?

Oh yeah, Steam told me the other day i was downloading 2,750 MBp/s too. Makes sense and seems like the logical explanation.. Cheers :)

Oh right, never knew about that. Thanks. I know i tried to overclock it manually once before but with it obviously being a locked processor it just threw it back at me.
