Hello all as you know Christmas is coming up! I'm wanting to get a motherboard with a SSD and new OS. My current gaming pc has a Seagate Barracuda with an HP Windows 8 OS on it. I want to get rid of EVERYTHING on the Windows 8 drive. Files including Windows 8 files. I want to use the SSD for the OS and possibly my MAIN games like Battlefield 4 for faster map loads.

Anyways, how do I go about doing this? I know that when installing a new OS, it prompts with options and one is "Format". I heard you can reformat multiple drives which sounds great! But will it get rid of EVERYTHING from the HDD?

Thank you for helping me out and if there are any other questions I'll gladly answer!

That's a lot of money to spend on an upgrade that does little for game performance aside from loading times if the game is on the SSD.

I'm just curious why you want to replace Windows 8 and your motherboard both as that will cost between $200 and $300 roughly and gain you little or nothing.

If you kept the motherboard, you could just get an SSD and then CLONE your drive to that (like a Samsung 840 EVO).

In case you aren't aware, Start8 is a great solution for $5 that brings back the previous interface (can tweak the settings to disable CHARMS BAR etc).

It just seems a waste to buy another copy of Windows when you have one already.
you should unplug the hdd completely when installing the new os and have only the ssd on. otherwise the idiotic installer will add the multiple os thing at the boot up and use the mbr of the old hdd. (it causes issues when you remove it later on)

after you finish installing you can add the hdd back and format it completely or keep some of the files. just make sure to have the ssd as the first boot option in the bios after you add it back so you dont boot your old windows by mistake.
