Hi, I'm currently working on my first build and have run into some issues. Firstly my specs are:

Graphics card: Asus Radeon HD 6970 (second hand)
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G64 (brand new)
RAM: 2x4gig GSkill RipJaws.X (second hand)
CPU: AMD FX 6300 (brand new)
PSU: Cougar RS 750W 80+ (brand new)
Case: XClio A380 (brand new)
HDD: Western Digital 1TB WD10EARS (second hand)

I apologise in advance for the long post. Ok so that's sorted I'll get to some of the issues iv'e been encountering. I put everything together and tried to start the PC up but it would always start for a split second, beep and then shut off. So I got a friend over who had previously built several PC's. He checked the wiring and said it was all good, so he suggested we eliminating each part and retry booting to see what the problem was. After we took out a few parts we tried to boot again but this time I saw smoke, so I quickly shut it off. There was a very small amount and it was white. My brother said he saw it coming from the CPU but I only saw it around the motherboard near the RAM. (The RAM is basically brand new, the guy I bought it off said he got it and it wasn't compatible with his mobo.) At this point my friend had to leave, however he said not to worry about it and it should be fine. So after that I checked every component for and sign of burns or melting and I could not find any. I thoroughly check the back of the mobo to see if any soldering had been damaged and none, the top was fine with no signs of melting. I then checked the CPU and there didn't seem to be any sign of burning on that either. The pins were all fine and straight.

I figured it out that the issue was the CPU fan was incorrectly locked down as the lock was kind of pushing against the heatsink. So I reassembled everything and this time with the CPU fan correctly locked in. With everything set the machine booted fine, all LED's and fans running, the graphics card fan running and the CPU fan running. So with a functioning machine I thought everything was good to go so I plugged the PC into my monitor and booted, but no signal showed. This is where my issue is. With my monitor or TV off, I boot the machine and it turns the TV on; so I assume there is some sort of communication between the two devices, however there is no signal. At this point I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

I got one of my friends to test my graphics card when I first bought it because it's second hand and he said it worked fine. Could the smoke incident be the issue? Could my CPU be fried, and if so can the machine still boot with a fried CPU? Or perhaps there is something wrong with the motherboard. Iv'e tried some solutions that I've seen online but nothing seemed to work. Iv'e tried removing 1 stick and then both RAM. Iv'e tried two different TV's and one monitor, also 2 two different HDMI's and a VGA. I've read that the motherboard may be set to the primary video signal and that I need to change it in the BIOS so that the graphics card is the primary video signal, however the only port my motherboard has is a serial port and I don't have a chord for that.

So if anyone has any idea as to what the issue is and a solution I would be ever thankful.
