I purchased a Specter 40” 1080p HDTV. My question is why does the monitor read 1080i when I press the information button? I am using an antenna instead of cable and I am guessing that somehow is part of the reason.

Your tv supports both 1080i and 1080p, they are both pretty much the same. I is interlaced and p is progressive. Television is broadcasted in either 720p or 1080i with the exception of "HD" channels. over an antennae is definately 1080i.
