Win 7 Professional N excludes several previously core Windows applications. This was done because the EU sued Microsoft over bundling too much stuff with the OS.
I'd go with 8 or 8.1.
8 or 8.1? and can I ask why you'd choose win 8 over win 7?
I've been using it since the Preview days, and I like it. Especially on a dual monitor system. The only time I see the Metro interface is when I invoke it, or reboot. Metro opens on one monitor, regular desktop opens on the other. One click on the desktop, and Metro disappears.
And with 8.1, you can default the boot selection to Desktop only.
Add to that the other enhancements with 8, and it is the same as, or better, than 7. Contrary to all the internet bitching. Every new OS that Microsoft puts out, there is much screeching on the internet about how bad it sucks. Every time.
