I have an HP D100 scanning printer. I used to a lot to scan pictures. Then there was some mixup with my virus software and an hour or many more later, when it was resolved, the scanner didn't scan to my computer. I don't KNOW those are related facts, but they did happen sequentially. I assume there is some setting in the print driver, but I can't even find the driver. I am hesitant to reinstall a driver because
- I can't find it easily on that mass of drivers on the HP web site
- the other functions all work. That is, I can print from this computer and from the other. I can scan to the other computer.

The only thing not working is - how can I scan (again) to this computer.

Tried that. Now the situation is worse. I can't print from MS Word, only from Notepad. The problem seems to be between the Norton virus scan stuff and the HP stuff. How can I get HP Tech Support to help me?

Hello,

Sorry for the trouble. I am Vineeth and I am from the Norton Support team.

Are you able to use the scanner or Printer when Auto-Protect or Smart Firewall feature in your Norton product is disabled?

Thanks!

Thank you, Vineeth, Norton is not the active problem at present, but I can only repeat that the problem began immediately after Norton tech support and I had a go round.

Hawkeye22, my printer is several years old:
The following options are free for in-warranty customers. Support for out-of-warranty customers may require a fee.Check warranty status

So I can't get free support and I don't want to pay to get a driver!

Yes, I can install the driver. Yes, I can print - from Notepad, not from MS Word.

Yes, scanning is still broken.

I have now removed Photosmart Printer more times than I can to think of. I disable Norton, reboot, go to remove/add programs, do the "Install Error" program from HP.

I think I'm stuck.

HP should have some kind of help for me - at least Norton has chat for all customers. On the other hand, I am current with my Norton coverage, and out of warranty for HP.

OK. Now I will re-define the problem. I am willing to settle for less. I just want to print from MS Word. I have this system described above - Windows XP, HP Photosmart Printer - and, while I have been able to print from MS Word, I can not. Re-installing the drivers will not help; it was re-installing drivers (in an attempt to resurrect scanning) that botched the MS Word printing. I am able to print from Notepad or the web, just not from MS Word. I deleted "normal" and rebooted, which did not solve it.

Thanks for any help!
