hello.i have a 4,00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18) and i would like to upgrade it to 8 gb.could you suggest me something??my motherboard is Packard Bell imedia S3712 and my cpu intel core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50GHz.i'm really confused with what type of ram to choose and the mhz etc.i am willing to spend up to 90 or 100 euros

Any reason for the upgrade?

It is likely that you won't see a 100 euros worth of performance here. I only ask because you are using DDR2 memory. DDR4 is right around the corner and spending 100 euros right now to go from 4GB DDR2 to 8GB DDR2 on hardware that may be starting to show its age might be better served in saving for a newer system.

Are you saturating your current capacity?

i want to uprgrade because recently i had a little bit of lagging.the other day i was seeing a movie and i noticed that the ram percent was at 75 percent.and when i am not doing anything it at 50 percent.also i recently bought a new video card,so i am playing games alla the time.can't i upgrade to a 8 gb dual channel ddr3 at 1600 mhz for example??it must be only ddr2??i mean will my motherboard "accept" a ddr3?

You are stuck in DDR2 because of the motherboard & CPU. I bet your new video card had more VRAM which has to be mapped by your system memory, leaving you less overhead.

If you want to use DDR3 or DDR4, it will mean you must upgrade your CPU and motherboard also.

Are you using Windows 32-bit or 64-bit?

64 bit.my gpu by the way is nvidia gtx 650 ti 2gb.dont know if that helps.so i can either buy a ddr2 ram or upgrade motheroboard, cpu and buy a new ram?

OK...

So you have 4GB of DDR2.
Your video card requires 2GB of that in memory mapping leaving your system to run on 2GB
Your Windows 64-bit OS requires at least 1GB but most likely closer to 1.5GB
You may have 300-400MB of system memory for everything else you ask your PC to do which is bad because that means Windows will use more of the paging file slowing down your whole system.

You are definitely saturating your system memory. You can upgrade your RAM to fix this if you plan on keeping this rig for a couple more years

hmmm.i don't know,i was think of uprgrading everything within a year.so i think i should just wait to come across some more money.i must change cpu and motrboard at the same time or i can change first the motherboard??because if thats the case i can change the motherboard right now with the money i was planning to use for the new ram.also can you suggest my a motherboard that can support the latest ram and my card etc?the only thing that i know for sure is that it must support intel processors, because i had in mind an i5.sorry for bothering you!

You will have to upgrade motherboard/CPU & RAM at same time. These parts are not interchangeable with your current setup.

Your video card/power supply/Case/HDD/& DVD-ROM should all be use-able in the next rig.
