Good day! My laptop (TOSHBA) is underclocked during gameplay at 1.36 Ghz while charging the battery. I don't experience this issue when using only the battery (unplugged) and when I removed the battery from the laptop.- thanks in advance!

Solution

What would upgrading the video card due in this case? It cant underclock a cpu. I do think your right about the power profile. Maximize battery and other power plans can lower the clock of a cpu, also if you go through the bios theres a setting which...

there are multiple toshiba latops with the name "S855D" with that same cpu please give us the full model name

for example my laptops full model name is "Hp G4 2029wm"

as for your problem you probably have the laptop setup to run at max cpu on battery so there are 2 ways to fix this
1:Change this in "Advanced Power settings"
2:Use AMD Vision control Center
(note that I am Using Windows 7 as my Operating systen)

Ill be using step 2.
this is what im guesssing you have right now
if you right click on an open space on your desktop you should be able to see
the following highlighted in blue
This picture

as you can see I have AMD vision control center availabe via right mouse clicking on an open space, it allows me to adjust various components on my laptop, including the cpu speed which is being called "Cpu Power" in the box highlighted in green

Once I click it , it'll take me to something like the last picture at the bottom right now i have the Battery and plugged set to the lowest speeds. hope this helps ^^ :D

ok in that case we will do step 1 the slow way!

this works for windows 7 so if its not windows 7 u will have to search a bit ill list the things u need to do

1: right click on an open space on your desktop and open "Personalize"
2:Look at the bottom right of that newly opened window and click "Screen saver"
3:now click the blue link that says "change power settings"
4.now click EITHER "CHange when to turn off display" or "Change when comp sleeps" ( it doesnt matter which 1 u pick) on the left side
5. now click "Change advanced power settings"
6. now you will see a list of things , look for "Proccessor power management" and click the cross sign so it drops down a menu for you
7. you are now given 3 things (Ignore System cooling)
8.press "minimum proccessor state" and put in 0 for both battery and pluuged in
9.now press "Maximum processort state and put in 100 for both battery and pluggged in

once you do this press "Apply" and then ok then close all of those windows and u should be fine XD if u need pictures i think u can find them online

but bascilly your thing should look loke this http://i.imgur.com/xAxvxwx.png

(sorry for late reply, went away for a couple of days) Did you expierence this problem when you first got it or did it just happen.

EDIT: If this happened now and not when you first got it, try reverting back to previous time in windows

aw crap this aint good D:

well there are a few fixes that i can think of try this in the exact order.
1: Update your laptop Bios
2: after that, update video driver

u said its constantly underclocking when it is plugged in right? maybe you have the power profile set to maximize battery
check in you amd catalys control see if you can adjust anyhting to do with battery power and peformance

What would upgrading the video card due in this case? It cant underclock a cpu. I do think your right about the power profile. Maximize battery and other power plans can lower the clock of a cpu, also if you go through the bios theres a setting which changes the cpus power, not the FSB multiplier tho.

I have the exact same laptop and i used to have the exact same issue. I figured this method myself and it works for me.

Follow these steps below:

1. Install AMD Overdrive if you don't have it yet.
2.Go into your bios; go under power management; and change the CPU power mode from "Dynamic Switch" to "Always Low"
3. As soon as everything is booted up, launch AMD Overdrive and set your core multiplier to 24x. ( under the performance/control menu )- Clock/Voltage. (This won't put it to 2.4ghz because this CPU is locked, so it will flip itself to the default base speed, 2.3ghz)
4. Once that's done, click apply (a popup should come up prompting you to disable turbo core) Click yes. A warning message will then pop up asking you if you are sure, in this case, click OK. Now your CPU is clocked at its base speed of 2.3Ghz and it doesn't under clock when gaming!

If you want your turbo core function to work as well, send me an email i'll explain a neat trick.
(NOTE: You will have to repeat this process every time you power on your laptop or wake it from sleep.)

Hope this works,

All the best!

:D
