It is happening many times from a week ago. On many installations the installer got stuck and nothing happens, but when I press on restart and it sayis "this program doesn't allow to restart" I cancel the restart process and the installation has finish!! (and well done). In example, right now with one Steam game, it is the first time I run it and on the "first configuration" on the first step is trying to install the Microsoft VC redist package i have been waiting for almost 15 minutes (and i have a SSD) and I tried the restart thing and when i have canceled the restart it has finish installing.

Anyone have any idea of what is happening? Thank you very much!

If you have "system restore" on, use it and go back a few weeks before the problems started happening. It won't affect your steam games.
If you don't use system restore, you may want to un-install the Steam installation program and then re-install it. It couldn't hurt to use your Windows OS disk and choose repair, which only fixes system files. Start with those and see if it is better!

It is happening once again. When I wrote this post, I finally reinstalled windows with a clean install. Windows 8.1 Pro from MSDN Dreamspark (legit licence). Since last week it is happening again but with different changes. I tried to install Secure Download Manager (for downloading Dreamspark Software) and it didn't. Again with VC redist package from Steam games. Right now I'm trying to install Bootracer and it is not installing. I think it only happens with programs involved directly with windows I don't know if you know what I mean. I disabled UAC and nothing happened. The only difference between this and the OP is that now it is not even finishing installation if I try to restart the computer and right away I cancel the restart.

I don't know whats going on, this is the 4th time in a row. I have no strange software installed. I have no viruses, I do not any uncommon use of the computer... I dont mind to make clean installs, restore the computer or whatever, the thing is driving me crazy is the fact of not knowing what is happening. I don't mind to keep restoring the computer every two months if I know whats going on!

Thank you again, so much.
