Does this sound like a memory problem?

I recently started having issues with my computer slowing down to freezing/so slow it might as well be froze or a straight up BSOD memory dump. What will happen is my computer will be running for several hours and then start getting progressively slower over a few minutes until it freezes/near freezes or sometimes crashes. I noticed that as it slows down, the red light on the front of the computer actually flashes less and less when its trying to do something. When I restart it, it will then last for about 45 minutes before it happens again. Then 30, then 15, etc, until it is slow as dirt from the outset. When I use it again the next day, it runs fine for several hours and then the whole cycle begins again.

Because of the progressive nature of the problem that seems to reset after prolonged periods of being off, I figured I might as well see if heat was playing a part and completely cleaned out the entire computer, not that it was very dirty, and redid the thermal compound on my CPU, which it needed anyway. The problem persists. Also, I feel it's important to note that this is on a new hard drive I've had for about a month, so it's not cluttered or anything.

I'll be running a memtest when I can use the computer again, but does this sound like a memory problem, particularly with RAM?

I don't think so. My dad might have an extra one lying around his house, since he's a bit of a packrat, but I'm guessing it would be old as dirt.

Oh, also, one other detail I forgot: I tried a system restore from a point a couple weeks ago and it said it failed at the registry. Though, I started the system restore from Safe Mode(which isn't as slow as normal mode and I can do some things in it) when the computer was at the worst of its cycle. In restrospect, not a smart time to do that.
