I have a pretty common question but I need to know the answer for my particular situation. Laptop vs Desktop. My budget is around ~$1700, but I could go a few hundred higher if I NEEDED TO. Unlike most of the threads I found, building a small desktop for portable gaming wouldn't work that well. I'm likely going to be playing games around the house, at school, at friends houses, and on vacation. Another big thing is that if I had a pc build, I need a moniter and OS(windows 7), which is a fair bit of money on that front. The biggest issue with a portable desktop is that I'm going to be playing games at places like school and I don't want to bring a desktop + moniter there. I don't need build or laptop suggestions, as I already have a few good desktop builds and I'm pretty sure I'd be configuring a Malibal Satori P170SM if I get a laptop.

If the bottom line was that you needed to play games, on the same rig, in different places, then you would have to get a gaming laptop. The amount of hassle of toting a desktop around and plugging in the wires, et cetera, would be infuriating. I couldn't handle it anyway. :p

On top of that you have a good budget for gaming laptops. You should be able to find a very nice system with that pricetag. For your situation, investing in a gaming laptop is the way to go!

If you would like any advice on what laptop to get or specs to shoot for, let me know!
