Hello there,
I have a Seagate barracuda 250G Internal SATA HDD (4-5 years old) which I connected to my computer... I have tried with both Ubuntu as well as windows 7 and the problem is:

In UBUNTU:
It searches the hard disk, shows all the drives for a brief...and when processing is over, the drives disappears....and an error came the screen something about "drives cannot be found and input/output error"..

In WINDOWS:
It shows the drives (again for a brief) also in disk management and then "you need to format the drives" shows up when the drives from the computer disappears. If I try to format, it says cannot read the drives...also a pop up comes saying the USB is malfunctioned and in device manager it shows I know device...

I thought my hard drive is corrupted but when I attached it to my smart tv...it works fine...no hang no "No device found", works flawless....if I had option for copying file in my tv..I didn't have to ask for this question..I already had backed up my data...but well...so please help me...

I had search for the answer in this thread but I couldn't get...if u have link of the thread with the same problem, kindly please post it in here and delete this thread...

Thank you

We don't bump in Tom's so I deleted that post - someone will post an answer if they have one.

My guess here is that with a bit of luck, the disk has enough life in it to yield up your personal files but it may be drawing too much power from the USB port and knocking it out. If you search in, say, e-Bay for an identical disk and if it's inexpensive enough, changing the PCB from that one to yours may render it usable again.

EDIT: There are plenty in the UK e-Bay site but I note above that you have another. Is the PCB the same shape?

this time it shows autoplay feature when connected...and after that again it shows usb is malfunctioned and unknown device and ask for format but no drive detected in my computer...
