My new laptop has a virus?

ok so my new laptop is windows 8

i was downloading some movies and then
i got a notification it roughly said 'ur antivirus' are turned off click here to turn them on'

i thought it was weird since i did turn them on
but i couldnt press 'turn on' and could only press cancel

i think i have a virus help please ive only had this laptop for 2 days!

Download something like malwarebytes free, and save the .exe, dont install it yet. power off, and boot into safe mode (rapidly and repeatedly pressing F8 or F9 while booting up), then install it and run it. Boot up and run some sort of antivirus software now (dont run both at the same time), like MSE, bitdefender, antivir, whatever decent free program you can find, and run that after.

i was on another thread and then it said to run malwarebytes already, so i installed it on the infected laptop and im performing a scan right now. do i cancel and then go safe mode?

no let it finish. if it give you problems at the end trying to remove whatever it finds, then do that

its giving me no problems help please i cant turn on my antivirus and i cant play my music

is malwarebytes finished scanning? did it find any objects? did you remove them if any?

its like 25% and it found 2 but i cant remove them help
