Sorry for asking this kind of question again, I saw different threads but of course every Psu is different and I'd love to hear some answers.

My gf would love to upgrade her Gpu since it's the only thing that is lacking in power in her Rig

-970 Pro3 r2.0
-ram 16004gbx1
-1hdd sata
-1dvd drive
-amd phenom 965

I really don't know how to read these numbers, an online calculator told me that it should need no more than 400watts if she opts for an Amd 7870, what are your thoughts?
Any other Gpu that I should suggest her? She mostly plays tf2 and sometimes other games, also she does not have a Full Hd monitor.

If you are going to add a good GPU to her rig I would also consider a quality PSU. Think of the PSU as the heart of the Computer a bad one can take the whole system with it. As said I would look a Seasonic Corsair XFX PC Power & Cooling Some Roswill are good to. I personally would not trust the PSU she has with a good GPU if it failed it could take the GPU motherboard CPU and such with it.

What you should worry about is the amps on the 12V rails and if it has two 6 pin power connectors. A 7870 requires a minimum of 500W and 30 amps on the 12V rail. That psu is giving you 36 amps which is enough. The thing I would be concerned with is the quality of that psu. I would suggest looking at a branded psu such as seasonic, antec, rosewill, corsair or xfx. Cheap psu's can cause system instability such as bsod's, system restarts and shutdowns, voltage spikes and can damage your system.

Heres some psu's you can consider:

xfx core edition is also good

If she does not have a full hd monitor than their are allot of cards that are cheaper and perform well at lower resolutions with good settings such as a 7770 or a 7790, gtx 650 even a 7750 although I wouldnt go that low.

Thank you, would this psu substain a 660?

So it does happen that the Psu can fry the motherboard and the gpu, damn, she would never take that risk since money is a concern as of now
