Windows updates have been installing for over 5 hours

I have been waiting for my laptop to finish updating windows for over 5 hours now.

Recently, my hard disk had an issue and I replaced it, this is my first windows update since then.

It has been stuck at a page that says "Please do not power off or unplug your machine Installing update 3 of 161" for hours now.. My cursor can't be moved and is rotating with the blue loading circle. Is it normal for the update to take so long or act that way? I will try to answer more questions if I wasn't clear enough but please help!

Thanks a lot! I was worried something would go wrong if I did that but everything went just fine!

If you have a Windows7 installation disc or a REinstallation disc provided by your computer's mfg,
I would suggest that you go into setup and change the boot order to boot from CD/DVD first.

Save and shut down.

Then insert the Windows7 installation disc and start the computer (We are NOT reinstalling windows)
procede through the menus filing in what it asks you until you get to a page where it asks if you want to install windows or Repair windows.

NOTE: on some versions of the installer you get a choice between "install" and "Advanced Options"\and "Repair" is in the "advanced options" menu

But in any event you want to choose "repair" run from the installation disc.

This SHOULD eliminate your problem.

Just be sure to get the correct version of windows (Home, Pro or Ultimate) and 32bit or 64bit
This image will need to be burned to a DVD-R or DVD+R disc (they will fit on single layer 4.7Gb discs)
