hi new to this and read a few threads and still none the wiser, my acer aspire laptop has been shutting down on its own, i have downloaded speccy and can see my cpu hitting temps of upto 74c while gaming, ive hoovered vents out and reduced this temp by around 10 degrees.

my question really is can it be underclocked? to reduce temp or does it need taking apart and cleaned thoroughly?

Solution
74C max while gaming on a laptop is actually just fine. Your laptop isn't shutting down because of temperatures, it's much more likely it's shutting down due to an outdated driver or possibly hardware failure.

If you know you have the most updated drivers, then I would try reinstalling Windows. Again, those temperatures are nothing to worry about.

best bet is to take it apart and clean it. and while your there pick up some thermal paste and reaply some to the cpu. Make sure to clean it first.BUt if you really want to just slow it down to reduce temps then download a program called throttle stop and reduce you multiplier. But i would sugest option #1

thanks for the replies not sure on outdated drivers, noticed it more playing world of tanks, can be in battle then screen goes blank and stops running, also can be a pain trying to start back up having to repeatedly turn on and off till screen comes on.
not sure if that narrows things down abit?
