I am looking for a mid-range graphics card. As of now, I have shortlisted the Nvidia GTX660 and the Nvidia GTX650TI. My processor would be Intel. I'm inclined towards Nvidia. Also, are there any other GPUs available for a similar price? I cannot increase my budget and the GTX660 is the maximum I can go. All help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
P.S.- My main use will be gaming and basic editing of photos and videos. Thanks once again.

Yup 7870 is also a good choice , i am not contending it in any way. The Performance difference between a GTX 660 and 7870 is not something great. It is just slightly in favor of 7870 in only some places, 7870 doesn't beats GTX 660 hands down everywhere.

Another point to consider was the OPs choice of Nvidia, if he likes Nvidia then why not let him buy it. It is cool to build a PC from something that he likes and will be proud to look at when he opens his Case. It might sound foolish when i am saying it, but it is a major thing in real life.

I chose many parts to make the look of my consistent Blue an Black theme. ( Choosing deepcool Gammaxx s40 over CM Hyper 212, Kingston Hyper X Blu ram over Corsair Vengence. ) and i love it when i...

AMD Radeon HD 7870 is slightly better than GTX660.
HD 7870 performs very well than GTX660 in newer Games and costs almost same and AMD/ATI radeon graphics will be a smart choice because they are releasing the MANTLE and it will improve the performence of AMD cards a lot.

GTX 660 is an excellent GPU. It will allow you to max out all the current gen games at 1080p resolution. There is no competitive card from AMD at the price point of GTX 660, you can look at Radeon 7870. but they almost perform the same. So if you have already decided about GTX 660 go for it. It is an amazing card. You won't be disappointed.

Go for the 2GB DDR5 version of GTX 660. This card benefits a lot from more memory.

If you want to save some money you can go for "GTX 650 TI Boost". The boost edition of GTX 650 Ti is a poor man's GTX 660, it only performs 5-10% less than the GTX 660 and you can find at a much lower price than GTX 660. Again go for the 2GB version.

Another point is GTX 660 is his max point, if he likes to save some money. He can buy GTX 650 Ti Boost, which is almost as good as GTX 660 and AMD has nothing to beat it at that price point. HD 7790 is the only card available from AMD in that price and it doesn't beats 650 Ti Boost.

Thing is though, I'm not too sure about AMD due to their poor reliability (Judging on what I've heard) and so I'm not too keen on spending money on AMDs. However, if you have one or know anyone who has one please tell me! Thanks!

I bought a MSI TwinFrozr 660 recently and I am super satisfied. It's so quiet that the loudest think in my PC is the case fan (Sugo SG6).

That being said, I see that right now, Asus DC2T 270X the same price. If you are looking for best performance per $, and you don't mind a bit of background noise (asus card is still very quiet) I would say go for AMD 270 or 270X.

Mantle is not at all a thing right now, it is not even certain to become a mainstream API. There is a long time to reach a point where Gamers actually start benefiting from Mantle. It makes no sense today to make choices on something that is not at all certain. I am not an Nvidia Fan Boy , and i also want Mantle to become mainstream , primarily because it would be another nail in coffin of Direct X and Windows and Gamer community will be so much happier.

But today i don't count Mantle when i am giving suggestions. Talk to me when it actually is implemented by developers in their games, as of now it is Direct X. And being a programmer myself i can assure you , a programmer will pick up something which is more well supported and stable and Far Far easier to code in, than something that has no support when i get stuck in programming the game to solve my problems.

And @KillerGamer : Just to want to tell you something bro, AMD is a really good comapny they are far more the good guys than Nvidia and Intel will ever be. Yes they are the underdogs as of now but it is not because that they are not good at what they do. They don't have as much funds as Nvidia and Intel have to invest.

Their products carry much more goodwill for gaming community than Nvidia's and Intel's. So give them a chance when you can in future. They are a good company to support like Valve is in software space.

Their products are reliable don't worry , they are of good quality and AMD backs their product with much stronger warranties than Nvidia. Do you know that AMD allows the board partner (Asus, MSI, Evga etc. ) to operate out of the recommended specifications for their GPU chips to make better products, and they will provide the warranty if things go bad. Nvidia however makes it clear that board partners should not do anything out of specified operating conditions and warranty will go void if they did.

Thanks, I sure will give them a try. However, at this point of time, I'm not in the position to experiment with new brands as I have been using Intel's processors since ages. Anyway, thanks!
