I have just replaced the PSU and rewired things in my 1 year old Alienware Aurora R4. I have a Cooler Master V1000 PSU and I have reconnected everything methodically and carefully. When I power up it loads up the BIOS screen fine and then attempts to load up Windows but I just get a grey screen.

The only thing I changed around were the HDD and SSDs. To better fit in the case I swapped them around so they are connected to different SATA cables. Other than that the computer loads ok with all lights and fans on (albeit at full RPM which I can fix if I can get into Windows).

Any ideas what may be going wrong? Windows 8.1 is on one of the SSD's.

Thanks

James

Grey screen???it becomes grey and stop or it reboots the system??? it shows something on the screen???

Try entering your BIOS and see if the frist bootable thing is the HDD/SSD with the OS you want

Hi - Gordim is correct, looks like you changed the sata cables to your HDD & SSD & didn't change your boot order in BIOS. When you get the BIOS splash screen hit the key for boot order (F9 on my mobo could be different on yours), and select the disk(prob SSD) that has the OS on it as the 1st bootable device. That should solve ur issue.

BTW, I've been to Hong Kong many times.

Thanks guys, I did enter the BIOS but I struggled to find the boot option for the drive selection, it just had something UEFI Bootable Master and USB HDD and few other options. The HDD/SSDs are recognised as it's booting though. I will have another play and see if I can select the right one.

Gordim - it goes through BIOS load screen then the pre Windows loading Alienware symbol appears before it just switches to a grey (possibly black) screen.
Thanks

I see, the prebuilt system are very tight when it comes to managment and upgrading.

These systems are built to be thrown in the trash when too old
