Hi Folks,

I have just acquired and old HP nx7010 Laptop that I am trying to sort out for a local kid.

The main trouble I am having is that I seem to have no option other than to log on as a single name 'Mine'. That name does not seem to be an Administrator because I keep being told I have no 'authorisation' to do things.
I would welcome any help.
Thanks

Hi. Thanks for your patience. It is XP Pro. Just doing what i can it seems to be called 'Robert' and working on Home Mobile workgroup. That is about as far as I can get in :-(

None work. Nothing at all occurs when I try the double ctrl+alt+ delete. In the case of TweakUi, I am not in the Administrators Group so cannot install. Or in the case of going down the Regedit route to Users, it will not allow me to add a DWORD value - says 'error writing to the registry'.

I do note that on that page of 'user list' the one at the top shows 'default' and there is no value set. Is that significant?

Thanks

Yes, an OEM HP XP CD would do the trick to allow you to install XP.

At this point, you need a tool to hack the password and we can't help you with that. Discussions on how to bypass security measures are not allowed on Tom's Forums. We have no means to verify you are the rightful owner or authorized to change the system in question.
