When connecting the wires to the motherboard they have to be in the right order meaning + and -, the markings are small and can easily be connected wrong. The next thing to check is the actual connection of the wires to the spade connector , if they are not properly crimped then there is no connection.

Just a few things to check to see if it's just something simple otherwise it may be a deeper problem.

Every small little thing like the + and - on the connectors are correctly slotted.. is there a configuration that makes the button do nothing like the power switch?

Have you checked the connections to the button itself ? Depending on the type of button there may be as many as 5 or 6 spade connectors on the button and if the two wires are not connected to the correct spade connectors then the button will not work as intended.

I have checked all the wires and found that they are correctly connected..final check on the button itself gave me the solution..the button has to be fully depressed with a blunt pointed object to get it to work..solution found problem solved..anyway thanks to those who had taken some trouble to assist me..
