Graphics adaptor system

Hello,

I was just wondering is there any way that i can connect a graphics card to
my computer without putting it inside of it. Is there something i could buy and
plug into my computer along with a graphics card plugged into that?

there were some attempts for external graphics like this in the past. but they cost an arm and a leg and don't deliver good results most of the time. the problem is the plugged in one has low latency and high bandwidth when dealing with the nortbridge/cpu whereas external are limited in both.
