Hello,

I managed to get two Radeon R9 280X's. I'm attempting to install one on each of my machines. After placing one in the PCI-E slot, when the computer boots, there is no video coming from the HDMI port of the card.

So far I've tried using both of the 280X's on each of the PCI-E slots that my motherboard has, but there is no video.

The computer will power on normally and even the cards fans spin, but there is nothing going to the display. I've also attempted to use the DVI port on both cards in both slots with no luck.

When I remove them, there is video from the motherboard using the CPU's integrated graphics.

Has anyone experienced this problem/can anybody point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

What PSU do you have and have you plugged the Card into the PSU?

Assuming your PSU is sufficient, I would imagine that the cards could be defective. Have you tried them in both systems? Do you have another graphics card lying around to test to make sure the PCIe slots are working?

I have a 1200 watt Coolermaster "Silent Pro", and it's supposed to be gold rated.

The cards have 2 8 pin connectors, so I connected them using 2 6+2 pin connectors.

I have a GTX 660 somewhere that I can try.

My PSU has 2 6+2 pin cables that you can add on and 2 6+2 pin connectors that are part of it. This is the picture.

Could it be because I'm not using the additional cables and connecting them to where it says PCI-E? I didn't think it mattered, as long as they were connecting.

Try the cards in another system. And try to update BIOS, if you haven't done it yet.

As long as you have two PCIe, 6+2 connectors (both the 6-pin part and the 2-pin part) plugged into the graphics card (that are plugged into the PSU, modular or not), you're good to go.

Thanks. I'm going to try to update the BIOS and check if the integrated graphics are somehow interfering, since that's the only way I can get it to work at all. even though the motherboard manual says everything in the PCI-E slot should be recognized automatically.

I really hope that works.

I doubt both graphics cards are defective, like I said, their fans start up. When I get home I'll try to plug in an older graphics card that I have.

If that works, should I assume that the cards are defective or that there is an issue with the PSU? I say that because the other card I have didn't require as much power. I don't want to RMA the wrong thing, if I can't fix this.

Hopefully the bios update will fix this. And I doubt your PSU is the problem.

So how many systems have you tested the cards in?

Hey guys. I installed Windows, using the integrated graphics HDMI that was working, then updated and flashed the motherboards BIOS, then I re-installed the cards and they ran.

None of the parts were defective. Yay.
