How do you limit wifi access to your kids?

Yes there is.

Most routers have a management system where you can set the time of day a machine using it can have internet and the amount of time.

You can setup multiple conditions for set periods of time access the internet of each machine that connects to the router.

You can do this by logging into the router its self via its user name and password login.

Most routers support this feature. If you have one find the brand name and it`s model number and you should be able to find a manual for it in PDF format online telling you how to set things up.

Log into your router & look under the advanced settings. You can usually set it up to limit or prevent access for specific blocks of time, or in some cases even limit access for certain devices via MAC address during certain periods of time. Depending on the router, you may even be able to set it up to block websites.

Check your router's manual, or the manufacturer's support site, for more information on how to set it up.

On my network, I have the router reserve IP addresses in the 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200 range for the MAC addresses of the kids' devices/computers. My router then blocks all network activity for that range of IP addresses during certain times of the day.

It takes some setup to get all the MAC addresses static, but once it's done you can forget about it.

So what do you do when your service provider has removed that feature from your modem/router? I have a Technicolour TG797n v3 and the firmware gets updated by the ISP from time to time and the last update removed the access times feature, so how do I now restrict my kids WiFi access? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

use another router for the kids, then bridge the 2 network together, the first network will be unrestricted and the other is restricted, then you can set any parameter you like for the kids router. You could also use an old computer to do this and you could add more feature that you dont have with a router.

Hey! This question is a year old, but I was surfing around and found it so I thought I should throw out an answer.

There is a new product I found called Appiom.

Currently in Beta testing, but pretty cool stuff. I'd check it out if I were you. I'm personally gonna grab one up the minute it's available.

I've found a product called koalasafe which can do this, It sets up another wifi network for you to connect your kids' tech to and then you can set the times that the wifi will be active and also restrict the content they can access
