Ok so I have purchased a 5.1 channel Multimedia speaker to setup with my PC for gaming. However I do not know how to go about it.

I have a gigabyte H77M-D3H motherboard.
The mother specification sheet mentions 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel but nothing more than that.
Do I need to purchase a separate sound card. There are two connections one green and the second one Baby blue at the back of the system.

Any help appreciated.

on your mb there the green speaker out..line out and mic port. on some 5.1 system you plug the speaker port into the sub woffer and then the speakers plug into the sub. if there 3 sets of speaker wires.. one for the front/rear/sub then your better off picking up a soundcard that does true 5.1/7.1 sound.

Gigabytes site for that page states: "To configure 7.1-channel audio, you have to use an HD front panel audio module and enable the multi-channel audio feature through the audio driver."

On a quick glance, there are not enough audio connections on the back of your board to facilitate analog surround output. I'm suspecting they route the other connections out the front HD ports for the surround feature, which they say you activate through software.

I would read the instructions for your motherboard: http://tinyurl.com/n9lygrj

Section 5-2-1, starting on page 88 of your manual: "Configuring 2/4/5.1/7.1-Channel Audio"

It has pictures that show you exactly which speaker plug goes into which colored connection in the back of your motherboard. :-) I doubt I could better explain it than what they've already laid out for you, but if you do find any of it confusing, come on back for clarification.
