Hi,

First time builder with a little knowledge looking for pearls of wisdom on my new build

Parts:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ricky/saved/2N5z

Critique is welcomed...I don't know if these parts are DoA or what because I haven't attempted to use them yet. I'm buying the case right now and I'm building it tonight. Should I just piece this together and test it, or is there a proven way to build a computer and testing it for hardware faults before having to tear it back down again and RMA it to newegg?

just dive right in. you would do more damage doing testing outside the case since im assuming you do not have a test bench.

carefully build it and take your time. it should take you no less then 3 - 4 hours.

looks good. if you're gonna oc you need a better cpu cooler. Before you built it, put the gpu, cpu, ram, cpu cooler, psu together outside the case and run a test, so you'll know it works.

Unless you have the specialized equipment (and you don't), it all has to be 'tested' together.
You can't test the RAM without the motherboard, without the CPU, without the PSU, without the etc, etc, etc.

I don't have the links, but there are some good build videos on youtube or at Newegg.

What do you mean by test it outside?

Do I need anymore cooling than what comes with this case? It comes with plenty of ventilation and 2 120mm fans not counting the fans that are included with the hardware. No OC

get a good cpu cooler, so you'll have plenty of headroom to overclock.
