My Mobo has 24 pins were the power goes. My psu has 20 pins together and 4 pins together, in other words they are separated into a group of 20 and a group of 4 but you can put them together to make a 24 pin connector. I connected all 24 but on a computer I bought from a friend a while back his Mobo also had 24 holes but he only connected 20 and it ran fine. Am I suppose to connect all 24 or only 20? I hear the term 20 pin connector thrown around a lot which makes me think I might have made a mistake by connecting 24. Thanks in advance for any help.

Solution
No if the board and powersupply both have 24 pins you'll be fine connecting all 24. I'm surprised his actually worked with only the 20 in place, you sure he didn't have them all in?

I'm 100% sure. It was an old build though maybe he replaced his psu with a newer model
