There's this laptop I'm looking into. There are two of the same laptop. Both have the same specs, except for the GPU and CPU. One has an AMD Radeon HD 8550g with an A8 5550m CPU, and the other has Intel HD 4600 Mobile with 4th gen i3 4000m. Which one would have faster performance, comparing both the CPU and GPU?

Solution
lol maybe he wants you to jam those cards into your laptop.

Here are all the laptop graphics comparisons.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

The intel 4600 comes in at #203, the 8550g at 227. So theoretically the 4600 is faster. BUT, the 8550g is at an approximate position, because there is no 3dmark info for the 8550g. But on an estimated guess I think the 4600 is faster. Not sure about the CPU difference, though. So I guess my post isn't very conclusive lol

I'm sure you are comparing integrated graphics. But there's no point as the both of them are not for any Graphically intensive applications. They are both good for basic work and web surfing.

If you want a good cheap GPU that will run your games well, checkout the HD 7770 or the GTX 660 if you're using a 1080p monitor.

This isn't a desktop, and I have a fairly low budget. Can you answer the original question if you can please?

It's okay. I already knew that the i3 was faster. I just wanted to know how good it was paired with the HD 4600.

Did you read the review you posted? The first box says this:

"In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD Graphics 4600 Mobile are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon HD 8550G."

"The Radeon HD 8550G requires 35 Watts to run and the HD Graphics 4600 Mobile requires 45 Watts. The Graphics 4600 requires 10 Watts more than the Radeon HD 8550G to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Graphics 4600 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon HD 8550G."

So I think your statement is switched. Intel = more performance with more power usage, Radeon = less power usage but less performance

The AMD on board graphics is designed for Graphics performance whereas the Intel on board is designed for a more office space environment. I would suggest you think about how much gaming you will be doing and with what games then pick the part that fits what you will be doing more of.

I'm going to be mostly playing Source games, and other old games like CoD 4. Which laptop is best for this?

I would grab the amd as some source.games like gmod and TF2 can be intensive at times.

Hi Dude :) Grabbed the AMD one instead of Intel :) First of all, base on the clock speed of the two CPU's,AMD A8-5550M has 2.1-3.1GHz base on your program usage and it will vary the speed for you.For Intel i3-4000M,It only stays on constant 2.4GHz.Secondly,comparing the GPU,although AMD Radeon HD8550G has only 515-720 MHz of Core Speed and Shader Speed,It has 256 Pipelines which are quite good for gaming. However, for the Intel HD Graphics 4600, although it has 200-1350MHz core speed and Shader Speed,It has only 20 Pipelines.Compare yourself dude :) for me,I would definitely go for AMD products compare to Intel especially when it comes to Gaming. :D

This guy fails to realize that clock speed alone is pointless when you don't look at architecture. The Intel CPU is more powerful by a decent margin. Intel CPUs also outperform AMD for gaming.

^ I agree. Take the HD 7770 GHz Edition vs the HD 7850. The HD 7770 has clock speeds of 1 Ghz , but the lower clocked HD 7850 is still better.
