public wifi and mysql server access

Hi, I really need help about this. I have a mysql server on my computer and remote access is allowed. When I try to access my server from the university wifi, it's not working. But it's working from home and from 3G so I know the problem is with the university wifi. Does anyone know what can cause that and what I can do to fix that?

I head about port tunneling, you think it might be a solution? I don't think I will be able to convince them..Can using another port be a solution? I don't know if it makes any sense..
