Dual Monitor Setup Won't Work With 2 VGA-DVI-I Adapters

My GPU(7970) has 2 DVI ports and 4 other ports (not sure what they are, they look kind of like HDMI cords but they're not.) Anyways, both of the DVI ports have DVI-VGA adapters attached into them but the second plug-in wont even detect that anything is there. I know its not a problem with the monitors because i tried switching the cords around and both monitors work. I also have a DVI-HDMI adapter that i can use for my TV. I tried hooking up the second plugin to the HDMI and both worked fine. So I don't know whats wrong. I feel like I didn't explain that well so if you didn't get what I meant, basically, my first graphics card DVI slot works fine with any adapter. My second one works fine with a DVI-HDMI but wont even detect anything with DVI-VGA. Both are DVI-I slots, i checked. The monitors are LG E2242 and LG 22EN43. What is the problem?
The LG 22EN43 has a DVI plugin that it can use, but i don't have a DVI cord so i decided to just use its VGA plugin and an adapter. The E2242 just uses VGA.

Dvi-d is digital only. Dvi-i has both digital and analog. Vga is analog. So dvi-d to vga won't work without an active converter. Just get a dvi cable, they're cheap.

some computers dont like that kind of setup sometimes but the best you can do in my opinion is to try connecting the one that doesnt work first and attempt to make that as your main screen and then add the other one as i sounds like the ports are fighting each other which does happen on occasions. and so that i can shed some light on the 4 ports that are confusing you, could you please tell me which version of the 7970 you have. this information is all from personal experience as i currently run a gtx 780 with a 7770 next to it.

It's an Asus 7970, it was $420. It used to be on memoryexpress but i can't find it anymore. The 4 slots have that L shape inside like SATA cables do, but its not SATA. Anyways, I don't really care too much about the 4 slots though. I tried using just one monitor on the port that doesn't work, and it just straight up wont work, but it works with an HDMI adapter so its not broken.

well straight of them are display ports and might want to care about them as you may had a malfuntioning port, now you have 3 options, 1 you just stick with 1 monitor. 2 you could try switch the dvi i adaptors round as both the ports are dual link dvi-i, this will confirm that both the adaptors are working correctly. failing that you could keep one of the adaptors on the port that seems to work and use something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Accell-B101B-003B-UltraAV-Display-Adapter/dp/B003HC85D2 on one of the display ports BUT MAKE SURE IT IS A ACTIVE ONE as it will not work properly if at all if it is not a active adaptor

There's a picture. I've already tried switching adapters, and both work fine. The thing i'm finding weird is the one that doesn't work will receive a signal when i use a DVI-HDMI adapter. I don't have an HDMI plugin for either of my monitors, but one of them does have a DVI-D plugin. I'm thinking DVI might work. Do you think I should just go and buy a DVI-D cord? I would've in the first place, but they gave me a VGA cord with the monitor so it seemed like kind of a waste of money.
