Hey guys, total n00b here. I've been a console gamer all my life (bring the flames) because I was always overwhelmed with all tech surrounding pc gaming. I've been using this forum as a reference for a lot of my questions but now its come down a specific question about my hardware.

While playing battlefield 4 and the newest Tomb Raider, I am noticing some pretty big performance hiccups concerning framrate when I bump my settings past high.

I bought a custom build off a craigslister (risky, i know) but it turned out to be a pretty decent starter machine for the 200 i paid.

MY processor is an AMD FX 6300 6 core 3.52ghz processor
My GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 7800.

I realize both pieces of hardware are older but which would be more beneficial for me to upgrade?

A new GPU would be more beneficial for you to upgrade if you want to run higher settings, the CPU should be too effective in it.
(BTW, the GPU is either a 7850 or 7870)

Also check how many watt your PSU is before upgrading the card, and make sure it supports it.

Thanks for the reply! I will have to check the SPU, i'm pretty sure the seller told me it was a generic one. How many watts would be ideal?

Depends on what you are going to be upgrading the GPU too.

Not really sure at the moment. Looking to spend around 250, but i dont know if anything id buy at that price would be worth it. I've done a little homework, but not enough to really know what to go with. I'd be willing to spend more buit i just bought a PS4 and an Xbox One this month so I cant get too crazy

Too run BF4 smooth on ultra, you will want to get atleast a R9 280x ($300) and I would recommend atleast a 650w PSU to go along with it.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Whats the easiest way to find out the wattage of my PSU? Will it be on the actual unit itself somehwere? Sorry, I literally am brand new at all of this.

Also, I'll probably wait a little while until the prices drop a bit or until I get some more money saved up. 300 isnt bad but is a little steep at the moment

I would save up if I were you, and the easiest way to tell the wattage is to take the side panel of the case off, there should be a sticker on it.
