I have an fx-6100 and its OC to 4.2 ghz and a gtx 660 asus OC edition and i feel like im getting a bottleneck. im playing crysis 3 and checked my gpu load and is stays at 99% but drops down to 73-85. no big deal. but then looked at my cpu load and all are at 93%
do i need to upgrade my cpu?

It does appear there is a slight bottleneck, but I would say it is not significant enough to warrant an upgrade. It seems that the oc 6100 and the 660 are a pretty good match. If your gpu load is at 99% at least at some point then your cpu is doing a pretty good job, it is simply getting hit hard at some cpu intensive points and that is to be expected.

well, what i dont understand is during gameplay, weather in a intense spot in game or just walking in a building, the gpu will go down in the 40s or 60s and my cpu load is staying way up there in the 80-90s. all 6 cores are loaded.

How is your fps faring during low gpu usage moments?
December 4, 2013 10:30:36 PM

They drop a lot at times. here and there some stutter. if i turn everything to very high with just fxaa i get 31 fps. i play on high and get around 50 fps. but when i turn quickly or just walking, itll randomly have a major fps drop and thats when the gpu usage goes down.

Can you post the rest of your specs, resolution you're playing on, and if you are on multi-monitor? Also, how is your vram usage?

also monitor your CPU clocks when you experience fps drops

Oh, didn't think of that one, good suggestion lmaonade. I'm going to have to tap out for now, nearly 1:00 am here.

motherboard. asus m5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ .. BIOS version 2005
Memory 16gb 1333 speed ddr3 ram
cpu fx 6100 clock speed 3.3 OC to 4.2
i play at 1080p 1920x180 res. on a 20.1 in monitor.
graphics a gtx asus OC ii 660
WD Black 7200 RPM 1TB HDD

And i dont know how to check my vram usage

my cpu clocks stay at 4.2 ghz

oh and my power supply is a 500W but just bought a new powersupply and waiting. its a modular 750W

haha thanks :)  I was thinking that it may be the VRMs on the motherboard overheating, but since his clocks are stable that may not be the case

power supply shouldn't be an issue since if it were one then your computer would be shutting down. as for checking vram usage you can use programs like GPU-Z or MSI afterburner. Check the temps on your GPU while you're at it also.

Well a 500W is enough but a 6300 is not good for gaming but still it is well playable. i agree with usbgtx550, ther is a bottleneck. Crysis 3 is a both gpu and cpu intensive game.so it is normal.do u have an aftermarket cpu cooler?

his cpu is actually a 6100, bulldozer, even worse than a 6300

but yeah there is a definite bottleneck by the cpu

my gpu temps wont go above 60c and i have a really nice cpu cool. a cooler master hyper 212 plus. but just now doing stress tests on my cpu, its not stable right now. i have read this cpu can go up to 4.5 stable and i keep getting blue screen. i can get stable at 4 ghz but it seems to bottleneck worse if i go to stock. do you think its the PSU not pushing enough power? and will my new 750w be better for my rig?

Oh hoh sorry sorry i meant the 6100. oops mistyped.

i am agreeing on my cpu for a bottleneck. i was looking at the 8350 fx series.

yup,the fx8350 would be worth an upgrade.
December 4, 2013 11:19:39 PM

i dont have all enough money, so with the 8320 or atleast the 8150 be a better upgrade?

yup, a fx8320 would also be worth an upgrade. It is more or less a fx8350 somewhat.

alright i will probably go with the 8320. but lets say i didnt want an upgrade. will a bigger PSU help my overclocking so that way i dont have so much of a bottleneck?

You have CX500W,right? it is more than enough. If u can get even a HX750W, then also it would be bottleneck, O.C ing it to 4.8 or greater will make a little increase in performance, the psu is enough although(i.e., CX500). The 8320 would be much better and would be worth an upgrade.
How much is the price diff. between 8320 and 8350? It think the 8350 is 190$..

The price difference isn't that much I suppose. So looks like I'll be upgrading my CPU soon. Thank you for all you're guys posts. Do I need to upgrade anything else?
December 4, 2013 11:40:43 PM

And I have a thermaltek 500w

Best solution
