I'm in the process of building my first gaming computer. These are the specs I have planned
CPU: Intel i5 4570
Ram: 8gb (4gb×2) ripjaws
GPU: Radeon R9 280x 3gb
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-K
Power: 600w
HDD: Single 1T drive

Any opinions on component changes or better ideas would be appreciated.

Good spec build but would definitely benefit from an Ssd boot drive even if it was just a small 60gb one.

I do agree with Dan2Real, you could put in an SSD, but I'd personally go for a 120gb SSD,

What's your budget by the way?

second your paring a z87 motheboard with a locked process droped to a none z87 board to save costs or pony up for a unlocked porcessor

My budget is around $1000, I'm going through ibuypower.com as I have had a few friends who built theirs there and have told me good things. I'm looking at games like bf4 on mid-high settings. Would I be better off getting a mobo with sli so I can add another card in the future or will I be fine for a little while with what I currently have?

Stick to that mobo and eventually as and when needed just upgrade with another single Gpu Card. The returns on Sli config aren't massive relative to price/performance ratio of a single High end Gpu.

I didn't put the pricing to ibuypower.com simply because it's not on the list for PcPartPicker.com, so you may just have to manually buy from there or go onto NCIX.com or newegg.com

Thank you for the specs I really appreciate it. Do I have to have a SSD I don't mind the slower boot times if it saves $80. Would it affect my gaming performance at all if I didn't have one?

Load times on games would be significantly less with an ssd.

Is that if the game is on the sad, if I get one and only use it for a boot drive then would it really matter? If I got one and put my games on it wouldn't it fill up pretty fast?

Depends on what size you use. I have a 120g with windows and about 5 games or so on it, and still have some space left over. Practically speaking, you could even just use the SSD for games, as you wont be booting windows nearly as often as you will be loading new levels or areas while gaming, though I must admit, the 7 seconds or so it takes to load windows is pretty damn nice sometimes.

This is my first time posting on this site and it has been a great help. I'm going to go with the build that was suggested and order each part. Its cheaper and I don't have to worry about it breaking in transit. Not to mention significantly cheaper
